What does a bookkeeping virtual assistant do?

A bookkeeping virtual assistant handles the day-to-day numbers: entering bills, sending invoices, chasing payments, matching receipts, reconciling bank feeds and preparing reports for you and your accountant. They work in your accounting software under your direction. Your registered tax or BAS agent stays responsible for lodgements and advice.

No. Your VA isn’t a registered BAS or tax agent. They do data entry and prepare records and reports under your direction, or under the supervision of your registered BAS or tax agent. BAS and tax returns, GST decisions and payroll obligations are reviewed and lodged by you or your registered agent.

Tell us which software you use and we’ll screen candidates for experience with it. Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks are common among the candidates we recruit.

Give your VA their own login with only the access they need, such as standard user rather than adviser access, and turn on two-factor authentication. On request, we block USB storage and set up managed antivirus on your VA’s computer. See how we protect your data.
